Ancient, Indus Valley Civilization, (c. 2500-1900 BC), Gold Ornament-Diskette Shaped with a Hole at Center for Stringing, 3.79 gms, hoard of such diskettes were found in June 2000 in a copper urn at Mandi in Muzaffarnagar district, a place about 200 km north-east of Delhi. This hoard is hence popularly known as the Mandi treasure. The hoard included varieties of beads, bead joints, spacer beads and thin circular diskettes, similar to the one listed here. The listed artifact is a fine example of the metallurgical capability of the Indus Valley people, extremely fine, very rare. Note: In June 2000, archaeological excavations in the Mandi village of Muzaffarnagar district—situated approximately 200 kilometers northeast of Delhi—unearthed a monumental hoard of Harappan artifacts concealed within a copper urn. Note: Mahismati is commonly identified with modern Maheshwar, located south of Indore on the northern bank of the Narmada River. These coins, often found overstruck by issues of Madasmati, suggest that the differing legends are more than mere engraving errors—they likely reflect distinct phases of local governance or political transition. In 2005, Kulkarni proposed identifying ancient Madasmati with Mandhata, approximately 50 km from Mahismati, reinforcing the close geographical and cultural connection between these sites. This particular coin type originates from the city-state of Mahismati and appears to have been overstruck by its own later issues, indicating continued local minting activity. Unlisted in Pieper’s catalog, it combines punch marks similar to those numbered 811 and 813, representing a new and significant variety that warrants further scholarly study. An important and historically significant coin from ancient India.

The Regency and Numismatic Legacy of Queen Lakshmidevi Lakshmidevi was the daughter of Kholeshwara, a prominent military commander who served King Singhana of the Yadava dynasty. She married Kanharadeva (also known as Krishna), the ruler of the dynasty. Kanharadeva had a younger brother named Mahadeva. Because Kanharadeva's son, Ramachandra, was still a minor at the time of his father's passing, the king bypassed his son and officially named Mahadeva as his successor. Queen Lakshmidevi, however, strongly opposed this decision. When the throne subsequently passed to Mahadeva, she refused to acknowledge his sovereignty. Following the death of Kanharadeva, she boldly asserted her independence and proclaimed her own political authority by issuing gold Padma Tanka coins in her name. Furthermore, she assumed a regency, most likely to safeguard and support her minor son's legitimate claim to the throne. Numismatic evidence indicates that Lakshmidevi's coins are as exceptionally rare as those of Amanadeva, suggesting that this particular constitutional crisis was short-lived. Notably, the queen's name on the coinage is rendered in vernacular Marathi rather than formal Sanskrit, with "Lasuma" serving as the regional variant of Lakshmi.

Note: Mahālakadeva, recorded in contemporary Persian chronicles as “Mahlak Deo,” was the final sovereign of the Paramara dynasty of Malwa. Historically, his reign was documented exclusively through literary sources, most notably Amir Khusrau’s Tarikh-i ‘Alai and the Jain hagiography Nabhi-nandana-jinoddhara-prabandha (1336 AD). The stronghold was ultimately breached by the Sultanate forces under the command of Ayn al-Mulk Multani. Mahālakadeva was slain on 24 November 1305 while attempting to escape, effectively terminating Paramara sovereignty in Malwa and leading to its annexation.

On most of Akbar Kalima type rupees the name of the emperor begin from bottom to top while in this case it's exactly opposite i.e from top to bottom. Very fine +, very rare.
